DMC Fil

I went to the rotation canvas and looked through to decide where to start and the Oriental Poppies won!  The reason being is this is so close to being finished, and I love the color in this one.  So I started out with the single strand of DMC Fil and worked more on the background black work pattern on the left.  I then decided to put in the veins on all the leaves following the instructions.  Last, I started filling in the bottom leaf with the long stitches called for.  I am using a variegated thread so the leaves are going to be varying in color.

Thanks for all the nice comments on the Lace Fan.  I appreciate reading all of them and am very pleased this piece was interesting to everyone.

What beautiful work. Good choice. This is just beautiful. I am sort of a novice and am so inspired and impressed by what I see on line.

It is nice you picked this one up. I have been curious about the blackwork background and just how far it covers. Of course I could look for the finished model but it is more fun to let it unfold as you have time to stitch it.

This is going to be another stunner!

This is absolutely superb!

Love the colour of the poppies and love the effect of the background.

Just a passing question but pertinent because I've just had this problem with my current project ..... how do you estimate the quantity of threads to buy?

I know it is probably a difficult thing to do, even for the people who produce kits ..... witness a large cross stitch rug kit I'm doing at the moment where I've run out of one of the wools ... sigh.

I suppose it is to do a small sample and multiply up and add a little extra?

I am glad you all like this one too! As far as thread and the amount to purchase....This one actually came with a list of supplies to purchase....some I had some I did not. When doing a new project I start with a minimum of one skein, card, whatever of each of the colors I know I will use a little. Backgrounds require test stitching to determine the amount used in the pattern I choose. Then out comes the calculator and mutlipication to get the proper amount. Hope that helps!

Thank you Pat. Yes, that makes perfect sense.

Have you decided what to do with the poppies when it is completed?
