Fini!

I finished the outside rows by using the Frosty Rays, Gold Rush 18 and finally the Neon Rays. I then laid in the Micro Ice which is like flat garland. This fiber has to be worked in very short pieces as it has a tendency to shred. I also put the fiber in a larger needle, widened the holes with my laying tool and still ended up with a lap full of black pieces, but it looks pretty. Then you must go to the back and tack all the threads down. Since this tended to shred, some of the pieces I tacked down are bare of any of the black at all. Use this thread sparingly and try to couch it in place instead of laying it in as this called for.

I really lightened this a lot so you could see detail. It is a very black and shiny silver piece...a lot prettier than I can get it to show for you. It is worked on black canvas not gray but I wanted you to be able to see the detail.

Rounding second, heading for home

The east and west sides are both complete, and the north and south are almost done. I started filling in the Frosty Rays first, the Gold Rush is the shiny parts, and then the last black is the Fyre Werks. Those last few fill ins will complete this piece

Herringbone Squares

Herringbone squares were worked around the perimeter of the piece. Each one is done in one of the previously used fibers. Kreinik, Patina, Snow, Silk Lame Braid, Neon rays, YLI Ribbon Floss, Vineyard Silk and the Cresta d'Oro. Then on the very left at the bottom, you will see that I started the Bargello pattern that will fill the design out to the square. I started with the Frosty Rays, but only got a small section done.

Many Sprat's head triangles

I finished all of the Sprat's head triangles.....eight sets of two facing each other triangles. I used Patina, Silk Lame Braid, #12 Braid, Vineyard silk, Cresta d'Oro, and Snow all per the instructions and they are very quick to work. After the first couple, it is easy to develop a rhythm and move right along. It is almost out to square.

Out to the corners

The four "legs" are the bargello stitches out to what will be the corners of the piece done in Fyre Werks and Gold Rush 18. Then, the four upright Waffle Stitches are stitched in t he deep vees using Neon Rays and Gold Rush 13. Last, I did one of the double Sprats Heads in Patina in the top right quadrant.

Is that a Rorschach?

It really does look a lot better in person! When I photographed it, it looked fine, but when I post it, it does look pretty strange. I put in the black around the silver points tonight as well as Neon Rays extending the bargello rows. A good bit done for the Tuesday group meeting!

Thanks to Jane for mentioning the Hummingbird on her blog as well as all of your favorable comments! It is so gorgeous! I am going to loan it to the framer for them to display in the store for a couple of weeks!

If it is Tuesday....

It is Black Onyx night! Tonight I finished up the Waffle Stitches. I used Snow, Silk Lame Braid and Patina on the last ones. I then used Gold Rush 18 and did more Bargello stitches extending the X out to all sides. Last I started more Bargello stitches using Frosty Rays. Even though we did a lot of talking and laughing I got a good bit accomplished!

Tuesday's Onyx

I met with the stitching group and worked on Onyx again tonight. This is done in all black and silver designed by DeeBee. I put in the Rhodes stars all around with Ribbon Floss. I then used Vineyard silk and did one of the Waffle stitches. I really lightened this up so you can see the detail.

Onyx & Tuesdays

I joined a new stitching group that meets on Tuesday nights! What a fun bunch of gals that all stitch right along and laugh while doing so! I decided to start Glitz & Glamour Onyx by DebBee's Designs as my project to take to this class. http://www.debbeesdesigns.com/GlitzGlamourIndex.htm
While the Onyx design is not on the site yet, there are several others in the Glitz line that are also in my stash, and you may want to cruise those. The design is worked blacks on black so this is going to be a fun one to get decent photos for you, but we will see how it goes. The design is started in the center and worked out. The four way bargello is worked with Frosty Rays in black, and then Rhodes diamonds are added in Neon Rays, also black. Next I did more Bargello using Fyre Werks in Black but that is showing up as a coppery color. The next bargello rows create the squares that are worked in black Neon Rays.
